Club History

Newbold on Avon RFC was formed in 1894 and is the oldest village rugby club in Rugby (the birthplace of the game) and one of the oldest in the World.

Parkfield Road, the Home of ‘The Bold’, is a superb sporting complex and function venue. It has three full size rugby pitches, two with removable posts and one with full flood lighting as well as partial and mobile floodlights and 5 changing rooms.

Recent extensive refurbishments allow us to take pride in one of the largest function rooms in the town ideal for corporate functions, wedding receptions, birthdays and family celebrations. Our Members Lounge and Main Bar as well as a fully equipped kitchen and three bars allow us to ensure your event will run smoothly under the guidance of our new Club Manager.

Famous names to have played their rugby at Newbold are Rodney Webb and more recently Richard Cockerill, both representing England during their long playing careers. Richard C. is now Director of Rugby at Edinburgh after a successful stint at Leicester Tigers.

Recent years have seen some great successes at Newbold with our 1st Team winning Midlands 1 West in 2016/17 to gain promotion to National 3, (Now Midlands Premier 1), this was a steep learning curve for the Club and Players, but an enjoyable one. In addition, the Coaches won at the Rugby Sports Personality of the Year Awards where the Club were also Runners Up for two years running. We also won BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire Club of the Year as well as Rugby and Districts Team of the Year in 2016/17.

The 2nd Team also finishing Runners Up in Warwickshire 1 as well as winning the Clomnwell Cup twice, the Warwickshire 1 League Cup and Fereday Cup and our 3rd Team won Warwickshire 2. Our O2 Mixed Touch team compete at a National Development Level and our Ladies Touch team have top 5 finish-es for three consecutive years in the Midlands La-dies League and have produced several regional players and a full England International. Our M&J Section goes from strength to strength providing a safe and fun playing and social environment as well as some very good talent for the future.

If you live in or are moving to the area and are interested in joining our friendly and successful family, whether to play, watch, socialise or hold an event then contact us and we’ll ensure you get a fantastic welcome.
