Newbold looking to the future had three current colts in the match day squad Jack Toolen , Fin Reed and Finn Conway a welcome addition to our home grown players .It was Newbold who were first to but points on the board with Jamie Mapletoft touching down after a making a telling break in midfield Dan Obrien added the extra points and it was not long after that Many Sidhu dived over in the corner to score an unconverted try 12/0 to the Bold. Malvern now had a period of possession and managed to score an unconverted try. Just before half time Rudi Reid stormed over the line to touch down and with the conversion from Dan Obrien it was 19/5 to Newbold at the end of the half. It was the visitors who struck back first in the second half scoring a converted try 19/12. This was the start in what seemed a flurry of tries being scored with Newbold adding to the scoreboard after winning back possession working their way into Malvern’s red zone and it was Rudi Reid who scored an unconverted try in the corner 24/12. The visitors were next to score a converted try 24/19 but once again Newbold hit back with a try by full back Manny Sidhu converted by Dan Obrien 31/19. This was a game that was being played fast and lose and it was time for Newbold to shut it down but during the final ten minutes of play Malvern scored a converted try 31/26 and on the final play of the game and in spite of some determined defence Malvern broke through to score under the post with the conversion going over the final whistle blew 31/33.
