Before kick-off both teams and supporters stood and applauded for a minute in tribute to Jack Jeffery of Evesham RFU who died playing Rugby the game, he and all of us love. Both teams also retired the number 11 shirt for the game R.I.P Jack.
Newbold entertained Hereford on a cold stormy day but warmed up the home supporters with a bonus point win writes Phil Fereday.
Team news was five changes from last week with a new centre pairing with Carter Murphy who was making his first appearance of the season alongside Oisin McKenna. Jamie Mapletoft moving to scrum half Josh Cooke in at full back and finally Kyle Furlong returning in the back row. It was the Bold who were playing into the elements that were first on the scoreboard with a Dan Obrien penalty 3-0 and it was not long after that skipper Ben Thompson dived over the line to score a try converted by Dan Obrien 10-0. It was not by any means one way traffic and Hereford making full use of the conditions scored a converted try 10-7 that being the score at halftime. Newbold now with the elements in their favour in the second half quickly made good use of it and were awarded a penalty try after Hereford were penalised for an illegal knock on 17-7.The next score came from the Bolds sound defence with man of the match Rudi Reid making the final tackle the loose ball was then pick up and distributed through the hands of Murphy and Cooke to Manny Sidhu who dashed along the touchline to score the try of the day 22-7.Inspite of Newbold outstanding defence Hereford after a period of pressure in which Newbold were reduced down to 14 men with a yellow card scored a unconverted try in the corner 22-12.The final score of the day to the delight of the crowd was a try scored by Huw Thomas after he charged down a clearance kick to gather and score it was converted by Dan Obrien .
