Newbold three match winning run comes to an end at the hands of a very determined and committed Droitwich team writes Phil Fereday.
Newbold travelled to Droitwich and the match was played in testing conditions with a gale force wind and rain with Newbold having to play into the elements in the first half and within ten minutes of play the Bold were reduced to 14 men with a yellow card being swiftly handed out. Droitwich soon took advantage of the extra man by scoring an unconverted try 5-0. Now having all players back on the field, the Bold scored a well worked unconverted try in the corner scored by Manny Sidhu 5-5. In the last play of the first half Droitwich scored a converted try under the post 12-5 at halftime.
So Newbold started the second half with the elements at their backs and with their many traveling supporters expectations were high to use this advantage well but in the first 25 minutes of play Newbold were given two yellow cards and Droitwich scored an converted try .So finally back up to a full strength side Newbold were 19-5 down and started to apply pressure on the home side try line and it was Jamal Sakinmaz who plunged over under the post for Dan Obrien to convert 19-12 .The final minutes of the game were played out in the home side red zone with Newbold desperately trying to get that score to tie the match but it was not to be with a final lineout taken from a penalty but the ball was knocked on and the final whistle blew it was differently not Newbold’s day.
