Newbold travelled to League leaders Lichfield but unfortunately came away with a disappointing result writes Phil Fereday.
Once again, a much-changed Newbold team took to the field to take on the undefeated title chasing home side. Injuries and unavailability’s have meant Newbold not having the luxury of fielding a settled team this season so far, but it has given the up-and-coming players the opportunity to play at this level.
The match started and Newbold with possession ran through the phrases putting the home side under pressure which resulted in a penalty being awarded which was taken and converted by Ethan Wookey 0-3. Newbold continued this fast start seemingly catching the home side cold and after 10 mins of play from a winning scrum fly half Josh Cooke chipped over an advancing Lichfield defence for Ethan Wookey to gather and run in for a try under the post which he converted 0-10 to Newbold. Lichfield now began to gain more possession and territory and for the remainder of the first half scored four tries making the score line 26-10 at half time. Second half was a continuation of regular tries being scored by the home side but to Newbold’s credit Lichfield were made to work hard for these points with the Bold coming close on a few occasions to adding to the score line. On this showing Lichfield most be favourites to win the league.
