Newbold served up a Bonus point win for the watching Vice Presidents after their annual dinner writes Phil Fereday.
The match kicked off and Newbold went immediately into attack testing the visitor’s defence keeping them inside their 22 metres so after a series of lineouts with a catch and drive saw Wills Messum going over to touch down for a unconverted try 5-0. The large crowd did not after wait too long for the next score and it proved to be the best score of the day with winger Dale Heaton receiving the ball some 40 metres out .He set off on a weaving run beating four defenders on the way to the line scoring a try which Ethan Wookey converted 12-0. At this point Newbold seemed to loose concentration and allowed Droitwich back into the game scoring a converted try and soon afterwards a penalty 12-10 .Finally the Bold regained control and from a 5 metre scrum scored a push over try from scrum half Kieran Walden converted by Ethan Wookey 19-10. Just before half time and after a period of domination by the home forwards Ben Hartwell dived over to touch down for a unconverted try 24-10 at half time.
The second half started and first to score was Droitwich with an unconverted try 24-15 but Newbold soon started to take control of the game again and the next score came from Rudi Reid making a welcome first appearance of the season after injury scoring an unconverted try 29-15. Newbold now seemed to try too hard to please the home crowd and from deep in the visitor’s half a loose ball was picked up for the visitors to run the length of the pitch to score a converted try 29-22. Newbold regained the momentum once again and an Ethan Wookey penalty settled the nerves 32-22 until on the stroke of full time the visitor’s intersected a pass to score the final try of the day. The conversion was missed and the final whistle blew 32-27.
